Job Specification: Cloud Engineer

About Flip-Pay
Flip-Pay is a high-growth global subscription management company. We operate a high-availability, low-latency platform to digital publishers that securely processes millions of events and transactions worldwide.
We are looking for a hands-on, multi-skilled Cloud Engineer to manage, and scale our core infrastructure. This is a critical role that bridges platform engineering, security, and IT operations, ensuring our services remain fast, secure, and resilient 24/7.
The Role
As our Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of our cloud and on-premise infrastructure. You will manage our cutting-edge GCP environment, secure our perimeter with Cloudflare, and ensure our global services meet stringent 99.9% uptime and compliance standards.
This role is perfect for a technical expert who is also a strong communicator, comfortable managing costs, liaising with suppliers, and reporting on system health to senior management.
Key Responsibilities
Platform & Service Management (GCP)
- Deploy, manage, and scale our global, low-latency services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Manage our compute workloads on Cloud Run.
- Maintain and optimize our globally distributed databases on Spanner.
- Manage our data warehousing and analytics capabilities using BigQuery.
- Configure and maintain our GCP Global Load Balancer for high availability and optimal routing.
- Manage in-memory caching solutions with Cloud Memory Store (Redis).
Security & Networking (Cloudflare & Physical)
- Own our global network edge and security posture using Cloudflare.
- Configure and manage Cloudflare WAF and DDoS protection to mitigate threats.
- Manage global DNS routing and configurations.
- Implement and maintain logic at the edge using Cloudflare Workers.
- Implement and manage GCP-native security controls, including Google Armor.
- Manage our small amount of physical office infrastructure, including Ubiquity devices, switches, and firewalls.
Operations, Compliance & Strategy
- Proactively monitor, manage, and optimize all infrastructure costs.
- Ensure the platform and company operations adhere to strict compliance and data privacy standards (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS).
- Administer our corporate Google Workspace environment.
- Provide management and oversight for our small Microsoft Azure footprint.
- Build and maintain intelligence dashboards and reporting for senior management, providing clear insights into system health, performance, and costs.
- Act as the primary technical contact for suppliers and third-party support firms (e.g., DoIT).
- Communicate technical strategies, risks, and performance to senior stakeholders.
- Utilise AI assistant tools (like Gemini) to improve productivity, automate tasks, and accelerate troubleshooting.

- Core Responsibilities:
- Managing high-availability (99.9% uptime), low-latency, global systems.
- Strong understanding of security, compliance and data privacy principles.
- Demonstrable experience with cloud cost management and optimization.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience reporting to senior management.
- Proven ability to manage suppliers and third-party vendors.
- Proficiency using AI tools to assist with engineering and operational tasks.
Desirable Skills (Nice-to-Haves)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Scripting and automation skills.
- Experience in the FinTech, payments or high availability systems.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Professional Google Cloud Architect/Security Engineer) or demonstrable experience.
